27 pound primitive Yorkshire pattern anvil
This 27 pound "Yorkshire" pattern anvil is old, very old. It has every indication of being from the 1700's or earlier. The blocky body, the tiny feet, the style of horn, the construction, and of course the quality of the material itself. These "Yorkies" are very scarcely found under 50 pounds. I only know of 4 of this pattern in this weight range. I assume this one to be a product of Mousehole forge based upon the quality and a few tell tale signs, but it cannot be confirmed.
This anvil has seen use in it's long life. There is a missing foot, as well as a crack in the steel face. While it is still perfectly functional for smaller works, it has lived a long life and deserves a "retirement" to a collection.
