4.5 pound wrought iron Michigan pattern axe
4.5 pound Michigan pattern axe.
This is an old axe, likely pre 1920. It is constructed of wrought iron with a steel bit. Well, after nearly a lifetime of use, sharpening and re sharpening, the steel bit was about gone. I breathed new life into it by re forge welding in a new bit, and heat treated and tempered, and then etched the wrought iron grain. Traditionally, this is how most tools used to be constructed. Hung on a curved 35" octagonal handle.
